Lenny's Featured in The Tennessean

Lenny's was recently featured in The Tennessean in an article titled, "Sub shop owner sees power of personality".

The article describes franchisee Anand Patel’s background in hospitality management and his love for the Lenny’s brand. He notes that the Lenny’s personality and growth opportunities are what drew him to the brand and have allowed him to succeed. Anand credits his management style to his father, who has managed multiple hotels in the area since 1978.

Patel inherited strong work ethic from his father

Anand Patel, who grew up in Pulaski, Tenn., earned his bachelor’s degree in hospitality management with an emphasis in restaurants from California Polytechnic State University. Patel, 31, is married with two daughters, ages 2 and 1. He is a member of the Asian American Hotel Owners Association and the Tennessee Business Association, which is dedicated to educating and assisting Asian business owners.

Patel is the owner-operator and franchisee of three Lenny’s Sub Shops in the Nashville area and has partners in all three locations. He purchased his first one in Cool Springs in March of last year and began operating his second location that June in downtown Franklin and his third in Green Hills in January.

Lenny's Featured in Entrepreneur Magazine


Lenny's was recently featured in Entrepreneur Magazine and Entrepreneur.com in an article titled, "Sub Commander".



The article, which includes a nice photo of Edith Kelly-Green, talked about her success as an business owner and the largest multi-unit franchisee in the Lenny’s franchise system. The article also mentioned her previous experience at FedEx Express and how that experience helped her transition into a franchising success story. Overall, this was a great win for the brand!

In 2004 Edith Kelly-Green was settling into retirement. After almost 30 years with FedEx--ultimately serving as vice president and chief sourcing officer for FedEx Express at the company's Memphis, Tenn., headquarters--her days consisted of waking up early, reading at Starbucks and working on the finances of several nonprofits.
A suggestion from her family prompted Kelly-Green to consider opening a Lenny's Sub Shop. "My daughter was a college sophomore at the time and said, ‘I eat there all the time. You have to invest!'" she remembers. "I knew the CEO and called him, thinking I'd just invest some capital. But he convinced me I'd be happier as a franchisee."

Lenny's Featured in The Williamson Herald


Lenny's was featured in The Williamson Herald in an article titled, "Owner of local Lenny's Sub Shop learns life happens when least expected".

The article details franchisee Anand Patel's background in the hotel industry and explains how he began purchasing Lenny’s Sub Shops in 2012. Anand notes the management staff at Lenny’s was already outstanding at the locations he purchased, but needed a little extra “TLC”. Anand notes that it was his employees and the community that helped him get through a difficult personal time when his daughter was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. Anand credits his success to creating a friendly, home-like atmosphere.

Owner of local Lenny’s Sub Shop learns life happens when least expected

Anand Patel had a plan for his life – and then life happened. Patel learned the importance treating people well, a close-knit family and a caring community. 

In 1978, Patel’s father purchased a hotel – his first – in Pulaski, Tenn. Looking to the future, he was soon building Days and Quality Inns along Interstate 65 in Tennessee from Exit 1 near the Alabama border to Exit 117 near the Kentucky border and a family business.

Lenny's Featured in Kiplinger's Personal Finance



Lenny's was featured in an article titled, "Jump-StartYour Career With a Franchise" in the April 2013 edition of Kiplinger'sPersonal Finance.

The article features various franchisees discussing why they chose a career in franchising and how they have found success in the industry. Edith Kelly-Green, who owns ten Lenny's Sub Shops in Memphis and Oxford, Miss., says she knew when she started back in 2005 that her business would have to compete with other sandwich shops, some on the same block. Kelly-Green, who retired from Federal Express in 2003, says her stores stand out because they offer larger sandwiches than her competitors. She also works hard to provide a welcoming environment. "The key is customer service," she says.

When Rowley Mayo, 62, was downsized from his job as a finance executive in 2009, he wasn’t ready to stop working. But Mayo soon learned that companies weren't lining up to hire workers in his age group, especially those accustomed to earning six-figure salaries

Rather than accept early retirement, Mayo, who lives in Elk River, Minn., decided to start his own business. While researching opportunities, he consulted with a franchise broker who introduced him to Mr. Appliance, a home-service appliance-repair company with 148 locations in the U.S. After talking with franchise owners and company executives, he launched his franchise serving the Minneapolis suburbs in December 2010.
