Dining on a Dime: Lenny's Sub Shop Kaiser roll sandwiches less expensive option

DINING ON A DIME: LENNY'S SUB SHOP KAISER ROLL SANDWICHES LESS EXPENSIVE

July 16, 2013

JACKSON, MI – Every other week Rene Wheaton visits a Jackson-area
restaurant in search of good deals for those looking to dine out without
breaking their budget:

Restaurant: Lenny’s Sub Shop

Address: 133 W. Michigan Ave., Suite B, located behind Swan Creek
Candle Company

Phone: 517-782-2444

Hours: 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and Saturday;
10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday; and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Online: Lennys.com

What I had: While I love Lenny’s Chicken Philly sub, I often feel like
it’s more than I should be eating. That’s why I was glad to have one of
their new offerings on a Kaiser bun. I got a roast beef sandwich and an
iced tea. It was still a large sandwich and plenty filling.

Cost: The sandwich was $4.75 and the drink $1.75.

Other deals: Lenny’s offers 12 sandwiches served on a Kaiser bun,
including the classic and the veggie sandwich for $3.95.

Tasty Tidbits: Lenny’s often offers deals through social media. If you
are a fan of their food, liking its Facebook page could save you some
cash.

Origins: The first Lenny’s Sub Shop opened in 1998 in Memphis, Tenn.
The Jackson location is just one of three in Michigan, with the others
located in Lansing and Warren. The chain is much more common in the
south and has yet to spread to the northeast or far west regions of the
United States.

Lenny’s Sub Shop Highlights ‘All-American Classic’

Memphis, TN – To help celebrate our nation’s independence day, Lenny’s Sub Shop, a national sub sandwich franchise, is kicking off a two month long promotion featuring its All-American Classic sub in all of its sub shops nationwide.

With a value price point of $4.95 for this half pound sub, Lenny’s highlights the deliciousness that sets their subs far above their competition.  The All-American Classic is Lenny’s personal spin on the traditional ham and cheese sub sandwich by adding Capicola – one of their signature Italian meats.

“I had our All-American Classic sub for lunch the other day and it’s really awesome,” said Brent Alvord, President of Lenny’s Sub Shop. “This promotion is bringing focus to our brand’s roots with the All-American theme.  Since inception 15 years ago in the heart of the mid-south with red, white, and blue colors, we have always taken pride in identifying with hard working Americans and providing hearty subs at an affordable price. ”

The promotion will also be supported on their website, their 90,000+ fanned Facebook page, and in-shop with red, white, and blue visual displays featuring “All-American Classic ½ Pound of Delicious for $4.95” content.

Franchisee Spotlight: Joe Caravella

Q: Where are you from?
A: I was born and raised in Tampa.  I went to Plant High School – Class of 1979.

Q: What was your career before franchising?
A: I worked for the local police department for 25 years.  My sister and brother-in-law are also police officers.

Q: How did you learn about the brand?
A: My son was a Lenny’s employee, and the location became for sale.  It was in our neighborhood, and my wife and I were already looking to open a restaurant.  When we learned more about the corporate side of Lenny’s, we really liked the opportunity structure and corporate philosophy.  When my wife and I had the chance to meet and talk with the CEO, George, Alvord, we were sold.

Q: Why did you decide to open your own business?
A: My wife and I wanted to restructure some of our capital assets.  She was a schoolteacher at Lewis Elementary in Temple Terrace, FL (a suburb of Tampa) for many years in our community, and I wanted to put my pension to work and have our family involved in a business.  We have nine family members working in the store, including my wife, her mother, three nieces and my son.  We look at the store as more than a financial opportunity; it’s a social skills opportunity for our family. In addition, it helps the young ones learn and maintain business skills.  Specifically, my wife and I are helping them understand bookkeeping, management skills and customer service skills to them so they can survive later in life.  We have a good work ethic and we want to show them that success involves family work and service to people, which aligns with my work as police officer and my wife’s work as a school teacher.

Q: When choosing a franchise, what were the criteria you used to make your decision?
A: We had already been looking to start our own restaurant and had a business broker. It was going to be a big restaurant in Temple Terrace with a 1920’s theme that served fresh sandwiches.  However, I was quickly convinced to become a Lenny’s franchisee after talking to Lenny’s CEO.  He had good family values and was interested in my wife and me.  Plus, Lenny’s food is not pre-made; it is very fresh, which aligned to the type of restaurant we already wanted to run.

Q: With regard to your previous experience, what skills do you feel helped you in your business?
A: At its core, police work involves serving others beyond oneself, as does teaching.  We bring this outlook to our business in serving our customers.

Q: How does your business connect with the community?
A: We are both on the board of directors of our local Italian Club, and my wife is on the Krewe of Italia.  We sponsor local community organizations and believe in giving back.

Q: What are some of your achievements (professionally or personally) that you think will help you along the way in your business?

A: I have always felt that anybody from any walk of life deserves our attention and care. No matter who you are, when you walk into our store, you are our number one priority and guest.  We love to entertain at home, and that’s what we are doing at work as well!

At Lenny's: The "Under 500" Menu and the Black Bean Kaiser

By: Susan Ellis
The first Lenny's Sub Shop was opened in Bartlett in 1998 by Len Moore, who sold the business to a group of investors in 2004. There are now roughly 150 Lenny's in 20 states.
"We're constantly in research development, looking at ways to enhance our menu," says Brent Alvord, president of Lenny's Franchise System, LLC.
One recent enhancement, the "Under 500" menu board — lime green and placed center, to catch the eye — highlights 9 sandwiches under 500 calories, starting at $3.50.
All of the "Under 500" sandwiches are regular menu items, only without the cheese or olive oil. Among the sandwiches are the roast beef sub, Mile High turkey sub, and the tuna salad kaiser.

Lenny's Featured in Memphis Business Journal

Lenny's was recently featured in the Memphis Business Journal in an article titled, "With new location Lenny’s launches low calorie menu".

With new location Lenny’s launches low calorie menu

By: Michael Sheffield

Lenny’s Sub Shops has launched a new “Under 500 calories” menu that coincides with the planned opening of a new location on Pauline later this month.
The new menu features 12 kaiser sandwiches that are currently on the restaurant’s menu, but Brent Alvord, president of Lenny’s said the company wanted to inform customers of the healthy alternatives on Lenny’s menu. The sandwiches start at $3.95.
“A lot of people don’t realize a sub shop can be very healthy depending on which sandwich you get and what you get on it,” Alvord said. “You can eat healthy, or you can load it up with extra bacon, extra cheese, extra oil and extra calories.”

Franchisee Spotlight: Chris Procell

Chris Procell and his father, Melvin Procell, are spearheading the growth of Lenny’s Sub Shop throughout Louisiana, with the brand’s first location in the state opening in Shreveport in June of 2011. The father/son team is planning an aggressive growth strategy of multiple locations expanding across north Louisiana over the next decade. A recent law school graduate, Chris Procell chose to go into the restaurant industry, where he will be working alongside his employees making sandwiches for his customers, because he wants to bring Lenny’s great sub options to Louisiana.

Before Franchising, what were you involved with?
I graduated from the Mississippi College School of Law in 2010 and just recently passed the Louisiana Bar Exam. I sparked interest in the franchise business while in school and thought that north Louisiana needed a Lenny’s.

How did you learn about the brand?
When I was in law school I was introduced to the brand at the location in Jackson, Miss. I loved their food and I always felt like it was a great, young, family brand. When I moved back to Louisiana I wished there was a Lenny’s around for me to enjoy.

Why is this brand and a franchise system the right fit for you?
We are looking forward to the opportunity to bring a new brand to the area.  We slice our meats and cheeses fresh to order and pile them high on fresh baked bread. With about a half pound of meat and cheese on the regular size sub, and about a full pound on the large size sub, Lenny's provides an unmatched value for our guests' hard earned dollars. Our Philly Cheesesteak is cooked fresh to order and is served hot off the grill.

What are your future goals? Development plans?
My father and I have the goal to open ten stores over the next 10 years. We’re going to start with our first store in Shreveport, which is on the west end of our territory, and then will work our way east. Our second store will most likely be in Bossier. We want to open other locations in Natchitoches, Minden, Ruston, Monroe and West Monroe throughout the next decade.

Franchisee Spotlight: Nathan Lee

“When I was in high school and my friends and I would walk around, I would say I had this goal of driving through a city and owning everything,” Nathan Lee says. “I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit.” The 24-year-old received his bachelor’s degree in finance from Georgia State two years ago and took a job with AT&T right out of school. After six months of leadership training in Georgia, the company placed him in Chicago where he managed three different stores for a year. But moving to a big city where he knew no one was a struggle for the southerner. “That year taught me that if I’m going to invest 70 to 80 hours a week in work, I want it to be with people I’d like to spend time with,” Lee says. “I learned an awful lot by being thrown into an unfamiliar territory with no true support system.”

Lee’s entrepreneurial dreams are supported by his parents, particularly his father Garry, who is also going in on the Lenny’s franchise. The two toyed around with the idea of one day opening a motorcycle shop, a hobby they share, but realized that the economic downturn didn’t exactly make that a viable option. Garry, 60, studied public relations at Eastern Michigan State and held a number of managerial roles at both General Motors and Honda. “My dad brings a lot of experience from his previous careers, and I’ve got the energy and excitement,” Nathan says. “He’s helping me out with financing, but as we grow and become more successful, I’ll begin to buy him out as he retires.” Garry says he and his wife are thrilled to assist their son’s dreams and that Nathan’s work ethic is second to none.

How did you learn about the brand?
There’s a Lenny’s in Cumming, Ga. run by Bruce Longmore where my family has eaten for the past eight or nine years. While I was in Chicago, I started researching franchises and Lenny’s came to mind because of the quality of food, the great experiences we’d always had at that location and the fact that it’s run by really stand-up people. Their leadership made us want to move into their type of organization over some of the others we looked at.

Why else did you choose an opportunity with Lenny’s?
They’re still a small brand, with only about 140 units. We were also in talks with Jimmy John’s, but with 600 or 700 units, it doesn’t have that tightknit feel. I’m only 24, so I want something that I can grow with. Lenny’s will give me a lot of opportunity in the future.

Once you open, do you have plans to get involved with any charities or do any community outreach with your business?
Gainesville has a lot of local churches, so we’d like to get involved and help fund mission trips or lend our experience to help further their work.

What challenges have you overcome to get where you are now?
The biggest one was moving 800 miles from home to Chicago where I had no family or friends. I was investing 70 to 80 hours a week, and not having anyone to really bounce ideas off of was challenging.

What are your expansion or development plans? What is your end goal with Lenny’s?
My goal has always been to run more of a holding company and to have multiple locations, so I’m able to supply and help other people finance their businesses. Figuring out the Lenny’s brand will give me the first start. I’m going in as the operating manager so that I can truly understand the business from the ground up. That will give me that knowledge base to lead at a higher level as I expand. Ideally, my goal is to have anywhere from five to 10 locations. That will be a significant impact, but it will still allow me to have my hand in all of the stores.

What are some of the publications you read? Local? National? What is your goal publication with your business?
I follow Ink, Fast Company and Forbes. I haven’t been back in Gainesville long enough to be too familiar with the local media.

Do you have any other interesting hobbies or passions?
We live on one of the largest lakes in the country, so I love spending time out there and wakeboarding. I spend a lot of time outdoors. I like going on motorcycle rides and enjoy pretty much anything with motors and having the ability to go fast.

Positivity

We take pride in many things at Lenny's, from the fresh products to the satisfied customers. Still, one of the things we're most proud of is our high standard of customer service and the outstanding employees that make it possible. The internet makes it easy and convenient for complaints, but we're often taken back and touched when people go to great lengths to give a compliment. We feel that praise deserves to be heard, not for us, but for the employees who represented themselves in such upstanding ways. We're proud of you.

From Shop #49 in Memphis, TN:

"I am filling out this comment card to send some due recognition to the PM staff. During my visit tonight, another customer was being extremely rude to the employees preparing her food - to the point that other customers were looking around at each other shocked. Rather than respond harshly (or worse, as we all wanted to do), they continued to give her the same level of service they give every other customer and did what they could do to diffuse the situation while she continued to pepper them with rude comments. I was impressed by their professionalism and the manner in which they treated her with infinitely more respect than she gave tot hem or than she deserved. Their manager/owner/operator deserved to know that quality people are running the store on the PM shift in particular."

From Facebook in regards to Shop #350 in Ft. Walton Beach, FL:

"The other day, I was on my way home from the grocery store, and I saw an older woman pulled over. Then, I noticed the kind stranger who had pulled behind her to change her tire. I wasn't surprised to see it was the local Lenny's vehicle, since the employees there are some of the nicest people I've come across, but I was impressed. I was a little surprised when I saw that it was he owner of my favorite two shops. No wonder everyone there is so incredibly kind. It starts at the top."

Lenny's Featured in Kiplinger's Personal Finance

Lenny's was featured in an article titled, "Jump-StartYour Career With a Franchise" in the April 2013 edition of Kiplinger'sPersonal Finance.

The article features various franchisees discussing why they chose a career in franchising and how they have found success in the industry. Edith Kelly-Green, who owns ten Lenny's Sub Shops in Memphis and Oxford, Miss., says she knew when she started back in 2005 that her business would have to compete with other sandwich shops, some on the same block. Kelly-Green, who retired from Federal Express in 2003, says her stores stand out because they offer larger sandwiches than her competitors. She also works hard to provide a welcoming environment. "The key is customer service," she says.

A franchise is quick way to invest in a ready-made enterprise
By: Sandra Block

When Rowley Mayo, 62, was downsized from his job as a finance executive in 2009, he wasn’t ready to stop working. But Mayo soon learned that companies weren't lining up to hire workers in his age group, especially those accustomed to earning six-figure salaries

Rather than accept early retirement, Mayo, who lives in Elk River, Minn., decided to start his own business. While researching opportunities, he consulted with a franchise broker who introduced him to Mr. Appliance, a home-service appliance-repair company with 148 locations in the U.S. After talking with franchise owners and company executives, he launched his franchise serving the Minneapolis suburbs in December 2010.

In 2004 Edith Kelly-Green was settling into retirement. After almost 30 years with FedEx - ultimately serving as vice president and chief sourcing officer for FedEx Express at the company's Memphis, Tenn. headquarters - her days consisted of waking up early, reading at Starbucks and working on the finances of several nonprofits.

A suggestion from her family prompted Kelly-Green to consider opening a Lenny's Sub Shop. "My daughter was a college sophomore at the time and said, 'I eat there all the time. You have to invest!'" she remembers. "I knew the CEO and called him, thinking I'd just invest some capital. But he convinced me I'd be happier as a franchisee."

Lenny's featured in Nation's Restaurant News

Lenny's Sub Shop was recently featured in an article in Nation's Restaurant News titled "Maximizing the value of the social media fan." The article talks about the success Lenny’s has had with its social media and how the brand has been clever with its social media initiatives. Brent Alvord talks about how this method has helped Lenny’s become a leader in the social space and outperform larger competitors. The article also includes information about some of the new product launches and promotions. Click here for the full article, or begin reading below.

Maximizing the value of the social media fan
Smaller restaurant chains share Facebook strategies that have helped them grow sales and units

Upstart restaurant brands like Toppers Pizza and Lenny’s Sub Shop have to compete against industry giants like Pizza Hut and Subway for sales, and while they acknowledge that they can’t match their rivals’ size, they can punch above their weight in terms of marketing through social media.

Executives at both brands said they concentrate less on the total number of “likes” they earn on Facebook compared with much larger chains than they do at their likes per store. Though the number of restaurants in their systems do not approach the same league as the competition, often their stable of Facebook fans per unit far exceed that of their peers.

Lenny’s Sub Shop Launches Mobile Ordering App

Customers at Lenny’s Sub Shop now have one more means of ordering their favorite sub sandwich from the 150-unit franchise. Beginning May 9, the brand that has fully embraced social media will further enhance the customer experience by launching its mobile ordering application.

Instead of standing in a long line, patrons can simply download the Lenny’s Sub Shop app, order a meal on their cell phone and have it ready when they arrive at the nearest location.

The Lenny’s Sub Shop App is available on iTunes and the Android Marketplace, allowing customers to instantaneously order a customized sub sandwich through the app powered by splickit, inc. Ordering from an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch or Android smart phone is simply “the easiest way to order and pay.”

“We’ve listened to our brand loyalists and we know this is something they have wanted for a long time,” said Brent Alvord, chief executive of Lenny’s Sub Shop. “Our new mobile ordering system will allow time-crunched customers to quickly and easily pick up their food so they don’t have to choose between their day-to-day obligations and their desire for a freshly made meal.”

Lenny’s
is one of only a handful of national restaurant brands to launch a mobile ordering application, but industry experts predict 2011 will be the year branded apps take on roles greater than just games and loyalty programs.

Of the 22 percent of quick-service restaurants with mobile applications as of December 2010, just 22.7 percent allowed customers to order, according to eMarketer. And a recent Nielsen Company survey found that among all users who download mobile apps, 25 percent use a dining or restaurant app.

“This is something more and more customers are looking for, and we’re excited to be on the frontend of this growing trend,” Alvord said. “The combination of online ordering and mobile applications has not yet been widely implemented, but we can see that it is the wave of the future and we’re ready to provide that service to our loyal customers.”

When Kuntal “Kevin” Patel, an immigrant from India working at his cousin’s gas station in Chattanooga, heard in 2009 that the Lenny’s Sub Shop on Gunbarrel Road was for sale, he decided the time was ripe to enter the food business.

Patel had saved nearly every penny he earned from his gas station job after coming to the United States in 2005, and with a little help from his cousin, he had enough cash to buy the franchise.

Franchisee Profile: Michael Timbes, Franchisee of the Fayetteville and Bentonville, AR Locations

Today we will be highlighting Michael Timbes, the franchisee of the Lenny's Sub Shops in Fayetteville and Bentonville, AR.

Locations: Fayetteville, AR; Bentonville, AR

How Michael Timbes Got Started With Lenny’s Sub Shop…
Michael, a 30-year veteran of the telecommunications industry, decided to escape the corporate culture and start his own business. To begin his search for his own business, Michael attended a franchising conference to get a better feel for his business options, as he knew he wanted to become involved in a franchise concept. After hearing the presentation on Lenny’s, Michael fell in love with the brand and knew that Lenny’s was a perfect fit for him. Michael began researching and found that none of the competing franchises were held to the same standards as Lenny’s Sub Shop in guest experience and freshness of food. Michael fell in love with the product; both the taste and portion size of the sandwiches and saw the success of Lenny’s in Memphis and knew that this success could be achieved in his home state of Arkansas. Soon thereafter, Michael opened his first location in Fayetteville, which was a huge success, just as he thought, and Michael is now opening his second location in Bentonville.

What Intrigued Michael Timbes about Lenny’s Sub Shop
Michael was attracted to the superb guest experience including the personal relationships employees establish with customers by remembering their names and their specific orders. He also noted that all of Lenny’s Sub Shop locations are immaculate and held to high cleanliness standards.

Something Interesting About Michael Timbes Story …
Alongside operating his Lenny’s locations, Michael is also an Operations Manager for AT&T Wireless. To help him handle the work load, his youngest son, Kyle, and wife, Karen, are managers of his original Lenny’s location. His family-owned business will continue when he opens his second Lenny’s location in Bentonville, as he plans on making his son, Kyle, a general manager of the Bentonville location.

Where Specifically Did Michael Timbes Learn about Lenny’s Sub Shop?
A colleague of his informed him that there were franchising opportunities available for Lenny’s Sub Shop and sent him an invitation to a conference at the Hyatt Hotel in Memphis. Listening to Lenny’s Sub Shop’s presentation, Michael saw the potential for Lenny’s in Arkansas and immediately became attracted to Lenny’s Sub Shop.

With the vast success of his Fayetteville location, Michael is opening a second location in Bentonville.

Lenny's Spotlight: Memphis Midtown Location

Lenny’s Sub Shop #49, located at Cooper and Madison, is Midtown at its best. The Lenny’s motto of More Food, More Taste, and More Personality® is showcased to every customer in a family-like atmosphere. Melanie Barden is the manager and has worked for Lenny’s since she was fifteen years old. She still has customers that come in and remember her in those tender years, and she now is a mom of two boys. Eric Williams, who describes himself as a “sandwich artist”, came to the Overton Square Lenny’s relatively recently, but was recommended by a veteran. Eric’s brother told him that Melanie was “awesome to work for.”

Giving back to the Memphis community is a major tenet of the store’s purpose. In addition to supporting the Healthy Kids, Teens Fight for Life and the University of Tennessee Health Science 5Ks, the store shows true Midtown character through being a proud sponsor of the Wing Factory’s Annual Turkey Giveaway, the Cooper Young Festival, Rhodes College athletic teams, Memphis Theological Seminary, and concerts and productions at neighborhood churches. “We believe in giving back to the community while supporting the whole spirit of Midtown.”

Melanie Barden and Zack Williams from the Midtown store were a part of the Wing Factory’s annual turkey giveaway, handing out over 500 cookies and 1,000 coupons at 6 a.m., and distributing 1,500 turkeys to community families. “The smiles on all of those children’s faces at 6 a.m. in below freezing weather is what made it all worth it to me” said Zach Williams, a shift leader at the midtown store and marketing coordinator for The HK Group, which store #49 is a member.

Events like this are the reason that the Midtown store keeps such regular customers coming in, simply due to the fact that the employee-customer relationship is so sincere. Lenny’s was founded on SIP: providing great Service, with high Integrity in a Professional manner.

Melanie Barden, the store’s General Manager, who just celebrated 10 years with Lenny’s Sub Shop, is the premier example of a leader who exemplifies those values with a strong focus on customer service and satisfaction. Her employees work as a team with the goal of having every customer leave the store with the ultimate Lenny’s Sub Shop experience.

If you haven’t tried the chicken or tuna salad, or the best Philly Cheesesteak in Memphis, check them out at 12 South Cooper. “Our new French Dip Sandwich is rocking and now you can place your order online from home, office or your phone,” said Williams. “Lenny’s Sub Shop has been a proud resident in Midtown for almost ten years. We take our Midtown citizenship seriously and are always looking for ways to improve our service and increase the fun experience you can expect at our store.” Said Melanie Barden. “Thank you Midtown!”

Franchisee Spotlight: Edith Kelly-Green, Owner of 11 Lenny's Sub Shop Locations

Each week, Lenny's will highlight a franchisee. This week, Edith Kelly-Green, is our spotlight franchisee.

Franchisee Since: 2005
Franchise Locations: Memphis, TN; Oxford, MS; Batesville, MS; Nashville, TN

How Edith Got Started with Lenny’s

In 2003, Edith retired from a 26-year career at FedEx as the VP and Chief Sourcing Officer. At her time of retirement, Edith’s daughter, Jayna, was a college student at Rhodes College and ate at Lenny’s Sub Shop frequently. She was the one who introduced Edith to the concept, who at the time had no intention of owning one of her own. Edith’s plan was to retire and relax.

Her main motivation for becoming a franchise owner was her family. Edith wanted a business that she could involve her children in. Her son had just graduated from Florida A& M with a MBA and had always wanted to be an entrepreneur. Now, he along with Jayna, are Edith’s business partners.

Together, they own 11 locations. They started their development in Oxford, Edith’s hometown. That location was for sale at the time she was looking at buying and it was close to the university where she thought she would have a great customer base. Initially, Edith had envisioned owning 10 locations and she has surpassed her vision. Edith and her family own locations in Memphis, TN; Oxford, MS; Batesville, MS; and Nashville, TN.

What intrigued Edith about Lenny’s

Edith loved that she could be a business owner with her family. She was exposed to Lenny’s through her daughter and knew George and Brent Alvord, the Lenny’s executives. When she looked more into the brand, she was extremely impressed by the values of Lenny’s and the way the Alvord’s ran the company. It ultimately aligned with her philosophies and she saw an opportunity for a return on investment for her family’s future.

Something Interesting about Edith’s Story…

Edith is the only Lenny’s franchisee with an airport location. She owns the Lenny’s location in the Memphis airport, which is one of Lenny’s highest producing stores. She purchased this location in July of 2005.

Franchisee Spotlight: Bruce Longmore, owner of Lenny's Sub Shop in Alpharetta and Cumming, GA

Each week, Lenny's will highlight a franchisee. This week, Bruce Longmore, is our spotlight franchisee.

Franchisee Since: 2008
Locations: Alpharetta and Cumming, GA

How Bruce Longmore Got Started With Lenny’s

Long-time Atlanta native, Bruce Longmore got tired of his career in corporate sales. Eventually, he grabbed hold of his entrepreneurial spirit and left corporate America to venture into becoming his own boss. For six months during his transition, he spent time looking into different franchise opportunities, but it was Lenny’s Sub Shop that really piqued his interest. As soon as a store in his area came up for grabs, he took the bait and closed on it in less than a month. In 6 months, Bruce was operating two locations: the one in his backyard in Cumming and another in Alpharetta, only a couple miles down the road.

What Intrigued Bruce Longmore About Lenny’s

The foodies that they are, Bruce and his wife, Donna, always wanted to own a sandwich shop. They had been customers of their neighborhood Lenny’s for eight years and loved that the staff was friendly and the sandwiches were sliced fresh and cooked to order, not to mention, they loved Lenny’s signature hot pepper relish.

Bruce has completely ingrained Lenny’s within his community. He sits on the board of directors for the Rotary Club, is a member of the networking group, Leadership Forsyth and Business 400. He hosts a networking club called “Network for Success” at Lenny’s every Wednesday night. In addition, he is also on the Lenny’s Advisory Committee.

Something Interesting About Bruce Longmore’s Story…

Bruce’s locations are family owned and operated. He and his wife run the stores every day. Bruce’s son is the assistant manager and his daughter and youngest son work during their school breaks.

The Longmore’s watch The Food Channel every night.
